Number of Different Facilities / Visits Needed to Complete Treatment
At EON Clinics, after the initial examination, just one visit and done in one day! We have all the clinicians, staff and technology, along with our own dedicated dental implant lab, on premises.
3 or more visits including the general dentist and/or restorative dentist, the oral surgeon's office, back to the general dentist and/or restorative dentist, as well as other facilities for diagnostic testing, and multiple visits for "try-ins". And no dedicated dental implant lab!
2 or more including general dentist and/or restorative dentist's office.
Time Line to Finished Solution
Go home with permanent implants and interim teeth in one day. Permanent teeth 6 months later.
6 months to up to two years in the case of necessary bone grafting, sinus lifting, other ancillary procedures, and/or stepwise implant placement.
A few weeks, however dentures will require replacement every 5-10 years according to the ADA due to bone resorption (melting away of your jaw bone) causing a change in the jaw bone shape. If the device is lost or broken, then more visits.
Bone Preservation / Preserving other teeth
Dental implants are the only tooth replacement system that maintains and preserve the jaw bone entirely.
Also preserve jaw bone and other teeth in the mouth.
Does not preserve jaw bone. Allows resorption of the bone, which causes loosening of the denture, change of facial shape, and damage to adjacent teeth.
Healing Time
Each patient and case varies, but most patients can resume their life style in as little to 2-6 days.
Anywhere from a week to several. And perhaps longer if bone augmentation is necessary. Because of the large number of implants used, there is more swelling, soreness, and bruising than with the AO4 procedure.
Usually multiple weeks depending on how many teeth are removed and the fit of the immediate denture. Dentures can cause chronic soreness, pain, thrush, and other conditions.
Chewing and Bite Strength
100% of the strength of natural teeth.
100% of the strength of natural teeth.
less than 20% of the strength of natural teeth. Restricted food choices.
Need for Bone Grafting/ Sinus lift
Due to the unique positioning of the implants, in most cases no bone grafting or sinus lifts are needed.
Bone grafting including sinus lifts are usually needed to create a base for all 6 - 8 implants, as bone deterioration starts as soon as natural teeth are extracted.
Usually none. However, 25% of the preexisting bone is lost in the first year of denture wearers, and up to 60% in the next 2-3 years.
Day-to-Day Care
Simple-- the same as with natural teeth. Brushing and mouthwash twice a day or after each meal.
Also the same care as for natural teeth.
Intensive. Removal, soaking, cleaning, and gluing are all necessary for denture upkeep.
